Apex Legends studio U-turns on controversial real money battle pass changes

Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment has said it will once again allow players to purchase the free-to-play shooter’s battle passes with in-game premium currency after it announced it would only be selling them for real money starting in Season 22.

Earlier this month, Respawn unveiled a number of controversial changes to Apex Legends’ existing battle pass system, in a move it insisted would provide more “value” to players. One of these changes will see the current season-long Battle Pass essentially split in two, with Respawn charging players full price for each half-season premium pass across the same amount of time.

However, the change that attracted perhaps the most fan ire was Respawn’s decision to begin charging real money for its battle passes, …

Microsoft, Nintendo praised for improvements to use of minerals from conflict zones

An annual report into the use of minerals sourced from conflict zones by major technology companies has praised Microsoft and Nintendo for their efforts to improve over the past year.

The use of minerals in hardware manufacturing – most commonly tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold – is tracked by US and EU legislation to ensure companies disclose the countries and specific mines where their resources originate in a bid to ensure these operations aren’t funding human rights abuses.

This year’s report reflects on an overall dip in standards caused by the Covid pandemic – when inspections were more difficult and …

Amazon's Fallout is now an Emmy-winning series

Amazon’s Fallout adaptation now has two Emmy awards to its name.
The show, which was released earlier this year on Amazon Prime, follows the story of Ella Purnell’s Lucy, Walton Goggins’ Ghoul and Aaron Moten’s Brotherhood of Steel member Maximus as they each make their way through the post-apocalyptic wasteland with varying degrees of success.
The series quickly became a hit for the streaming service, with scores of praise across the industry. Our own Fallout review called it “a lovely, if blood-spattered, surprise”, while Fallout’s original creator Tim Cain had nothing but praise for the adaptation.
